Wedding cake flavours couples are choosing in 2026
The first question at every consultation is the same one: which flavour? For years the safe answer was vanilla with strawberries. That is still a good cake, only couples increasingly ask for a combination their guests will remember. These are the five combinations from our standing menu that we recommend most often for wedding cakes.
The five combinations we recommend for weddings
- Pistachio sponge with pistachio cream. Roasted pistachio comes through in the sponge and in the cream, nutty and restrained in its sweetness. It is the boldest of the five in flavour.
- Belgian chocolate sponge with caramel cream. The bitterness of Belgian chocolate against sweet caramel. Restrained in its sweetness, so it lands even with guests who claim they do not eat sweets.
- Red Velvet with mascarpone. A lightly cocoa sponge with a striking colour, and mascarpone to lift it. It looks as good on the cut as it tastes.
- Vanilla sponge with Naked Cake filling and seasonal fruit. Naked Cake is our lightest cream, made with whipped cream. With seasonal fruit between the tiers it suits summer and garden weddings best.
- Walnut sponge with hazelnut nougat cream. Walnuts and hazelnut nougat. A flavour your guests know from childhood, only made properly.
Why these
What these combinations have in common is that they work across a whole tier, not just in a single spoonful. A wedding cake stands for hours and gets cut late in the evening, so the flavour has to hold and must not tire after the second bite.
Each tier can be a different flavour. That is worth doing when your guests include both children and grandparents: chocolate on the bottom tier, vanilla with fruit on top. So you do not have to choose between chocolate and vanilla.
You can also build a combination outside these five. Our standing menu has ten sponges, among them carrot, poppy seed, coconut and caramel, and eleven creams. If you already have a combination in mind, tell us at the consultation.
Tasting before you order
A flavour is hard to choose on paper. The tasting is part of the consultation and happens before you confirm anything, so you pick the sponge and the cream knowing how they actually taste, not how they sound.
We can bake a gluten-free, lactose-free or sugar-free version of any of these combinations, including a tiered wedding cake. Tell us about the allergy or the diet at the consultation so we can plan the whole cake around it. The calculator shows the surcharge for a dietary version as you select it.
Matching the flavour to the design
In wedding design the lead now goes to semi-naked cakes with fresh fruit, single-colour cakes with a textured cream finish, and cakes with a few precisely placed flowers. When the flavour is strong, the cake does not need to be complicated to look at as well.
Red Velvet shows well on the cut, so it suits a semi-naked style where the layers are visible. A pistachio cake carries muted tones and gold detailing, which pick up the green of the sponge. The whole process from sketch to delivery is on our wedding cakes page.
What a wedding cake costs
The price follows the size and the number of tiers, and involved decoration moves it up. As a guide, from our price list:
| Portions | Tiers | From |
|---|---|---|
| about 15 | 2 tiers, 21 + 14 cm | €98 |
| about 20 | 2 tiers, 24 + 16 cm | €116 |
| about 30 | 2 tiers, 27 + 18 cm | €151 |
| about 65 | 3 tiers, 30 + 21 + 14 cm | €290 |
| about 80 | 3 tiers, 32 + 24 + 16 cm | €349 |
| about 120 | 3 tiers, 40 + 32 + 24 cm | €501 |
The calculator gives you a figure for your own numbers in about 30 seconds, and we confirm the exact price in writing after the consultation.
